Winter Scavenger Hunt
WHEN:
February 1st – 28th
Take your ears on a scavenger hunt. Can you find or make some of the sounds that make winter downright noisy? Complete this auditory quest and receive points in the Nature Exchange.


Silhouettes and Shadows
WHEN:
February 1st – 28th
Winter is a great time to look for shadows and silhouettes. How well do you know your silhouettes?  Try to identify the shapes throughout the Nature Exchange, draw your own silhouette and try out the shadow puppet theater.


Story Time by the River
WHEN:
1st Wednesday of the month  at 10:30 AM
Join volunteers for a fun story time at CNC. Using books, puppets, and other props, they tell stories all about nature. Ages 3 – 5.


Creature Feature
WHEN:
Thursdays & Fridays at 4:00 PM and Saturdays and Sundays at 2:00 PM
All Ages
Join us every Thursday and Friday at 4 pm for Creature Feature!  Meet one of our native, resident animals with a CNC Naturalist.  Each month will be a different theme so Creature Feature is always exciting! Location will vary so check with admissions desk when you arrive!


Trail Hikes
WHEN:
Saturdays and Sundays at 1:00PM
A CNC docent guides you on a journey through the CNC trails using biofacts and activities to spark your “natural” curiosity.


Feeding Time
WHEN:
Tuesdays and Saturdays at 4:00PM
Join a naturalist for an in-depth look at one of our resident animals as our Wildlife Department feeds them!


Animal Encounter
WHEN:
Sundays at 4:00 PM
Learn about the native wildlife living at CNC through a 30-minute live animal presentation with one of our naturalists or docents.


Brownie Overnight
WHEN:
February 2nd – February 3rd
Brownie Scouts can earn their Hiker badge in an overnight adventure at the Chattahoochee Nature Center. Go on a night hike, make s’mores and sing songs around the campfire and then go to sleep inside! $35 per scout and $25 per adult. Advance registration is required and space is limited. Chattahoochee Challenge 10K
WHEN:
February 2nd
The Chattahoochee Challenge 10K is an official qualifier for the 2013 Peachtree Road Race along the Chattahoochee River and it’s a fast-paced benefit for the Chattahoochee Nature Center. Register online at Active.com or at any Big Peach Running Company store.

Registration for the 1-mil Fun Run is $15.


Mammal Study Merit Badge

Certified Interpretive Guide Workshop

Are you interested in creating meaningful experiences and memories that last a lifetime and connecting minds and hearts to the beauty of natureand the mysteries of history? Come and earn the Certified Interpretive Guide (CIG) credential with the National Association for Interpretation.

Home School Science Monday
WHEN:
February 11th from 12:30 PM – 3:00 PM
Learn over lunch about solar footprints. Afterwards, head to the Nature Exchange for the nature activity of the month. All ages are welcome.


Great Backyard Bird Count
WHEN:
February 15th – 18th
Be a part of science in action! Stop by the Nature Exchange to learn how you can particpate in a program that counts all the birds in North America. While you are here, make a bird feeder to take home.


Preparing your Landscape for Spring
WHEN:
February 16th from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Late winter is the ideal time to spruce up your yard for the arrival of spring. Join CNC Horticulturist Lisa Cole in a hands-on presentation of late-winter projects in the garden. Topics include what to prune and when, how and why to add mulch to the garden, and planting basics. By taking these small steps, you will ensure a beautiful garden with the coming of spring. STARLAB
WHEN:

Winter is the best time to see the stars! Take a naturalist-led journey through the night sky in STARLAB, our portable planetarium. Find out what constellations, planets and stars are on tap for this season. (Two 25-minute sessions, Ages 5 and up)

Rhythm, Rock and Roots
WHEN:
February 23rd from 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM
We are making noise at CNC and we need YOU for the cacophony. When you make a great big sound, you’ll forget about the cold. So head down to CNC and make a sound that’s bold!
Winter Sounds Scavenger Hunt – All Day Long
The Art of Noise Featuring Dave Holland – A family fun discovery of how noise is created and how ordinary objects come together to create rhythm & music! It’s an art, music, and rhythm making extravaganza where you are a part of the sound. 11 am and Noon
Natural Rhythms – Find your rhythm in the Nature Exchange as we try out instruments made from naturally found objects. 1-3 pm
Rock and Read Story Time – This story time has a beat. Tap and clap along with this fun rhythmic story told by one of our favorite storytellers. 3 pm
Campfire Treats – After you make a rhythm, join Camp Kingfisher at the campfire. Drink some hot chocolate and roast that perfect golden brown marshmallow. 1-4 pm


Docent Orientation
WHEN:
February 24th from 12:30 PM – 5:00 PM
In this introduction class, we will explore the various areas of education volunteering, including leading guided hikes on the weekends, interpreting exhibits around the grounds, and doing live animal presentations for visitors. The Nature Club – Discovering the Hightower Trail
WHEN:
February 28th 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM
Join the Nature Club monthly potluck! Spend your evening socializing with like-minded folks and learning from experts in the field. Lisa Simpson will share her research on the Hightower Trail. It was a pre-historic trail from the vicinity of Augusta, Georgia to the mountains of northwest Georgia and points beyond for many hundreds of years, used for travel and trade. Come join The Nature Club in February as we take a closer look into this ancient thoroughfare and the peoples who used it.
Ages 16-Adult; $10 General Public/$5 CNC Members.
