CNC History Hunt
WHEN: June 1st – August 31st

The land around CNC has a long and interesting history. On this challenging hunt, learn about native peoples and families that once called this area home and about historical sites that you can visit at CNC.


Traveling Traders in the Nature Exchange
WHEN: August 1st – August 31st

We want to hear about your summer travels around the neighborhood or around the world! Extra traveling points will be awarded to traders who bring in projects about their travels. We will also be showcasing our most exotic trading items with activities about world plants, animals, minerals and fossils.


Chattahoochee: Re-Imagine Our River Film
WHEN: August 1st – August 31st

Come join us for a viewing of our featured film:  Chattahoochee: Re-Imagine Our River

The viewing schedule is:  Monday – Friday at 1pm; Saturday at 11:30 and 3:30; Sunday at 12:30 and 3:30 in Cowie Weiss Theater, lower level of the Discover Center.  See Nature Exchange Naturalists with questions.


Creature Feature
WHEN: Thursdays & Fridays at 4:00 PM and Saturdays and Sundays at 2:00 PM

All Ages. Join us every Thursday and Friday at 4 pm for Creature Feature!  Meet one of our native, resident animals with a CNC Naturalist.  Each month will be a different theme so Creature Feature is always exciting! Location will vary so check with admissions desk when you arrive!


Morning River Canoe Trip
WHEN: August 3rd 8:00 AM – 11:00 AM

Ages 6 – adult.  There is no need to travel afar when the Chattahoochee River is in your own backyard. Take an urban adventure and experience rich wildlife through our river canoe trips. Join experienced and knowledgeable river naturalists as you re-imagine the river through a canoeing experience.  Learn the history, habitat, ecology and recent issues impacting the local watershed – all while enjoying the serenity the river offers. CNC provides all equipment for participants.


Beautiful Biomes
WHEN: August 3rd 11:00 AM -3:00 PM

You walk on a biome everyday but have you ever wondered what biome you live in? Biomes are a geographical areas classified by the plants and animals that live in it. Learn more about these geographic regions and the animals and plants that define them.

· Biome Ambassadors: 11am and 1pm
See a Spider Monkey and hop too with a kangaroo! Meet EIGHT different animals from around the globe and learn about the biomes that they inhabit.

· Recycled Animal Craft Show and Award Ceremony: Noon
See the entries of the 3rd Annual Recycled Animal Craft Contest.  CNC’s Celebrity Box Turtle will be on hand to award the winners of the Recycled Animal Craft Contest and to meet all the participants and CNC visitors. For entry information, visit the Nature Exchange Page on CNC’s website.

· Build a Biome: 12 – 2pm
Forests, deserts and grasslands- Oh MY!  Build your own Biome by selecting the plants, animals and habitats that make it unique.

· Story Time: 1pm
Miss Julia will delve into the intrigue of the rainforest as we explore the animals, beauty and complexity of its layers.

· Super Sized Creature Feature: 2pm
Meet locally indigenous snakes, turtles and raptors and learn all about the biome that we call home.


Trail Hikes
WHEN: Saturdays and Sundays at 1:00PM

A CNC docent guides you on a journey through the CNC trails using biofacts and activities to spark your “natural” curiosity.


Feeding Time
WHEN: Tuesdays and Saturdays at 4:00PM

Join a naturalist for an in-depth look at one of our resident animals as our Wildlife Department feeds them!


Animal Encounter
WHEN: Sundays at 4:00 PM

Learn about the native wildlife living at CNC through a 30-minute live animal presentation with one of our naturalists or docents.


James Casto Singer-Songwriter Concert Series
WHEN: August 2nd at 8:00 PM

Our 2013 Concert Series with Home by Dark Productions kicks off in the Ben Brady Lakeside Pavilion at the Chattahoochee Nature Center on Friday, June 7th and we are excited!!  James Casto and his crew from Chukkar Farms will be bringing the best songwriters in America to Roswell, GA for songwriter-in-the-round shows.  So, mark your 2013 calendars for the First Friday of every month, May thru October and consider Season Tickets!  Bring your picnic, invite friends and enjoy an incredible night of music in a unforgettable setting.  www.homebydark.com

Storytime by the River
WHEN: First Wednesday of the Month at 10:30 AM

Ages 3 – 5.  Stories tell us a lot about nature! Join our volunteer librarian as she uses books, puppets and songs to share stories about nature with a new theme each month!


Docent Orientation
WHEN: August 10th 12:30 PM – 5:00 PM

Ages 10 – adult (children 16 and under must have an adult), FREE, Advance Registration Required by August 7. In this introduction class, we will explore the various areas of education volunteering, including leading guided hikes, interpreting exhibits, and doing animal presentations.


 River Canoe Trips
WHEN: Saturdays and Sundays in August, 6:00 PM – Dusk; Ages 6 to adult

$30 Non-Members/$25 Members. There is no need to travel afar when the Chattahoochee River is in your own backyard. Take an urban adventure and experience rich wildlife through our river canoe trips. Night Hike
When: August 3rd 8:00 PM – 10:00 PM

Summer is here and that means that heading out to CNC at night is the PERFECT way to enjoy nature.  Bring a friend or the entire family to hike through the woodlands or wetlands of CNC and discover how active the evening can be in the outdoors.  You will even get to visit with one of our non-releasable nocturnal animals up close.  And the best way to end a night hike is roasting marshmallows around the campfire.  All Ages, $10 General Public/$7 CNC Members.


Stand up Paddleboarding 101
When: August 4th and 18th 10:30 AM – 3:00 PM

Two times to choose from (10:30 – 11:30 am, Noon – 1 pm, or 2 – 3 pm); we will begin filling spaces in the first time slot and when it fills we will move to the next one.  Get ready for a summer on the river by signing up for a Stand up Paddle boarding class through Walk on Water Adventures LLC.  This exciting new class is perfect for those curious about trying paddle boarding for the first time and for those that have paddled before.  Class will teach entering and exiting the water safely and correct paddling techniques.  Come out and try this fun and exciting way to enjoy our beautiful water ways.   Paddle board, paddle and PFD will be provided. Ages 12 – Adult; $20 General Public/$15 CNC Members; Advance registration required by August 1st.


Starlab
When: August 18th 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM

1:00 – 2:00pm (two, 25-minute sessions), Ages 5 – adult.  Discover what stars will be up in the night sky this August as you journey into STARLAB, our portable planetarium.  A great way to stay cool at CNC and learn the constellations in the night sky.


The Nature Club Monthly Meeting: Nature Photography
When: August 22nd 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM

Come join old and new friends for a potluck at 7pm.  Afterwards, join Don Stewart with the Georgia Nature Photography Association as he shares photos from his travels and will offer practical information on how to get that perfect sunset or capture some elusive wildlife. Don will be speaking about technique, equipment and other valuable topics.  Ages 16 – Adult, $10 General Public, $5 CNC Members.


Drum Circle
WHEN: August 23rd 8:00 PM – 10:00 PM

$5 Donation requested. Come and join the drum circle at the nature center the 4th Friday of the month thru September. Professional drum leader Chuck Cogliandro leads the rhythm as you take part in one of the most basic celebrations of music.  All experience levels and spectators welcome- please bring your own drum or rhythm instrument.


Canoe 101
When: August 24th 10:00 AM – 11:30 AM

Ages 5 – adult; $15 General Public/$10 CNC Members (price is per person; book a third seat in a canoe and get half off.); Advance Registration is Required (space is limited.) Want to plan on spending the summer on the River but unsure of where to start?  Well then join us to discover the basics of canoeing including boat basics and paddling techniques.  Spend some time on one of CNC’s ponds to practice your newly-acquired skills.  Perfect for new paddlers from age 5 to adult!


Backyard Campout 
WHEN: August 31st  5:00 PM – September 1st 10:00 AM

A close-by staycation at CNC for Labor Day is a perfect weekend!  Join us for a campout at CNC this holiday weekend.  Sleep out under the stars, enjoy night hikes, play games on the meadow, visit with nocturnal animals, roast marshmallows around the campfire and more! $45 General Public Families/$35 CNC Member Families (price per tent), Advance Registration Required.
