The Ultimate School Supply Buying Guide for Atlanta Parents

Atlanta school supply shopping guide

The start of the school year is approaching quickly and you are probably dreading buying your child’s school supplies. I don’t like the chaotic school supply aisles at large warehouse stores and while the aisles at your local drugstore are probably less chaotic and more nicely organized, their prices might be higher. We can’t tell you which stores offer the lowest price for school supplies but we can give you tips on how, when, and where to buy school supplies that will hopefully make your life a little easier this back-to-school season.

7 School Supply Shopping Tips

  1. Find your child’s school supply list on the school website and print at least 2 copies of it. Keep one copy on your refrigerator and one in your purse or wallet (for dads). That way you will be reminded to buy school supplies and there will be no question of what to buy when you’re at the store because you’ll have a list with you. Do it now! 🙂

  2. Buy school supplies in bulk. Notebook paper, colored pencils, regular #2 pencils, erasers, glue sticks, tissues, paper towels, notebooks.. you will save money by purchasing these items in bulk and you will have extra notebook paper for when your child runs out or an extra binder for when your child ruins his other one by jamming it in and yanking it out of his locker one to many times.

  3. Start shopping for school supplies at least 2-3 weeks before school starts and keep the school supplies out of reach of.. anyone so the supplies are ‘accidentally’ used. Notebook paper, pencils and other small items can be bought for the same price just about any time but things like Trapper Keepers which can cost up to $20, might go on sale just before school starts.

  4. Don’t deviate from the school’s list of supplies. Buy the most basic version of pencils, binders, and folders. Often teachers gather all of the kids supplies and pass them out randomly. Your child may not end up with the glittery binder with a unicorn on it that she chose and could get upset because another students gets it.

  5. Look for coupons and deals. You can find deals at just about every store. Grocery stores, drugstores, Walmart, Target.. they all run back to school sales. The key is knowing when each store is running a sale. Keep an eye on weekly ads to see what’s on sale and stock up!
