Is your home baby proofed? Baby proofing your home is a very important way to help protect your child from accidents that can be avoided.
What are some of the things that you need to do to baby proof your home?
There are many easy ways that you can help avoid unintentional injury in your home.
One that is very easy to do is cover all unused outlets with outlet protectors or safety caps. This will prevent your child from sticking their fingers or toys into unused outlets and harming themselves. Another great idea is to install an anti-scalding device on faucets and shower heads to prevent burns. You can also set your water heater to 120 degrees. Did you know that it takes 3 seconds for a child to get a 3rd degree burn in water that is 140 degrees?

Great advice about checking your water heater temperature! It’s something we discuss with all clients as it usually isn’t part of the typical baby proofing thought process such as stair gates, electrical outlets, and cabinet latches. We also recommend using a candy thermometer with the water coming out of the tap to verify it comes out no hotter than 120 degrees.

You’re right.. water temp isn’t generally at the forefront of parents minds when baby proofing their home, but it should be. Using a candy thermometer is a great idea, thank you Safe Nest Babyproofing!
