Whale sharks are slow-moving filter feeding sharks and the largest known fish species in the world. The largest confirmed whale shark was over 40 feet long and weighed over 47,000 pounds. That’s an animal worth celebrating! International Whale Shark Day is August 30th, but we’re celebrating all weekend.
As the home to the only whale sharks in human care in the Western Hemisphere, we’d like to join you as we marvel at these incredible creatures.

Members Only Whale Shark Weekend Pajama Party
9a.m. – 10:30a.m. in Oceans Ballroom
Members that pre-register will enjoy activities, special things to see and do, and watch an exciting episode of Ocean Mysteries with us, including a special message from Jeff Corwin to you! This episode of Ocean Mysteries with Jeff Corwin will take us on an adventure from Atlanta to Mexico, where Jeff and the team will track migrating whale sharks. Reservations will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis. The first 250 members who register will be admitted.

Join us Saturday, August 31 for special whale shark activities and presentations in our Oceans Ballroom from 10:30 a.m. – 2 p.m.
- Guests will get to see up close the lift stretchers that Georgia Aquarium’s own whale sharks were transported on from Taiwan to Atlanta!
- Guests will also get to see the raft ladle that we feed our whale sharks with and plastic replicas of the food we feed them.
- Don’t miss out on fun narrated whale shark feedings at the theater window in the Ballroom at 10:30 a.m. and again at 3 p.m. at the theater window inside Ocean Voyager. You can even adopt your very own whale shark today.
