Backyard Campout
WHEN: Saturday, August 31 – Sunday, September 1, 5:00pm-10:00am
$45 General Public Families/$35 CNC Member Families (price per tent), Advance Registration Required. A close-by staycation at CNC for Labor Day is a perfect weekend!  Join us for a campout at CNC this holiday weekend.  Sleep out under the stars, enjoy night hikes, play games on the meadow, visit with nocturnal animals, roast marshmallows around the campfire and more!


Creature Feature
WHEN: Thursdays & Fridays at 4:00 PM and Saturdays and Sundays at 2:00 PM
All Ages.  Join us every Thursday and Friday at 4 pm for Creature Feature!  Meet one of our native, resident animals with a CNC Naturalist.  Each month will be a different theme so Creature Feature is always exciting! Location will vary so check with admissions desk when you arrive!


Trail Hikes

A CNC docent guides you on a journey through the CNC trails using biofacts and activities to spark your “natural” curiosity.


Feeding Time

Join a naturalist for an in-depth look at one of our resident animals as our Wildlife Department feeds them!


Animal Encounter

Learn about the native wildlife living at CNC through a 30-minute live animal presentation with one of our naturalists or docents.


Guided River Canoe Trips
WHEN: Saturdays & Sundays at 5pm

WHEN: 11:00 AM –  12:00 PM (two 25-minute sessions)
3…2…1…BLASTOFF!! See nature like never before inside CNC’s portable planetarium! You’ll have the stunning view of space right at your fingertips as you and your family sit side by side and watch the beautiful night sky go rolling by together. Learn how to easily locate the North Star, the Big Dipper, Orion, and much, much more. You’ll definitely have to bring the whole family over for this special treat! Ages 6 – Adult.


Storytime by the River
WHEN: September 4th at 10:30 AM
Ages 3 – 5. Stories tell us a lot about nature! Join our volunteer librarian as she uses books, puppets and songs to share stories about nature with a new theme each month!


James Casto Singer-Songwriter Concert Series
WHEN: September 6th at 8:00 PM
Our 2013 Concert Series with Home by Dark Productions kicks off in the Ben Brady Lakeside Pavilion at the Chattahoochee Nature Center on Friday, June 7th and we are excited!!  James Casto and his crew from Chukkar Farms will be bringing the best songwriters in America to Roswell, GA for songwriter-in-the-round shows.  So, mark your 2013 calendars for the First Friday of every month, May thru October and consider Season Tickets!  Bring your picnic, invite friends and enjoy an incredible night of music in a unforgettable setting.  www.homebydark.com

Date Night Canoe Trip
WHEN: September 7th Arrive as early as 4:00pm (Trip at 5pm)
Take a night off as you enjoy the beautiful scenery the Chattahoochee River has to offer. Nature Merit Badge
WHEN: September 8th 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM
Come learn about the intricate food web that connects our native animals and plants together. Find out the real differences between vertebrates and invertebrates. Learn how to impress your friends by easily identifying native plants. Let our non-releasable wildlife show you how they’ve adapted to Georgia’s environment. Locate and identify animal tracks so you can discover what types of animals are close by.  $25 per scout, Advance Registration Required at scouts@chattnaturecenter.org.

Birding Canoe Trip led by CNC Naturalists

Webelos Overnight
WHEN: Saturday, September 21 – Sunday, September 22; 6:00pm-10:00am
If the Outdoorsman Badge is what you’re seeking, our Webelos Overnight is definitely for you. Bring your fellow scouts out for an action-packed adventure filled with skilled knot tying, a live nocturnal animal presentation, fun activities, and a night hike through our wooded trails. Pitch your tent right next to your friends on the meadow after s’mores and stories by the campfire. Hungry yet? Wake up to a continental breakfast before a morning hike through our aviaries where you will meet our non-releasable wildlife up close! $35 per scout, $25 per adult; Advance Registration Required at scouts@chattnaturecenter.org.


Home School Science Monday

The Nature Club Monthly Meeting
WHEN: September 26th 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM
Come enjoy our monthly potluck social and connect with people who love nature! Our September speaker will be Dr. Joe Kitchens, Director of the Funk Heritage Museum at Reinhardt College.  He will be sharing a history of the Native people who occupied Georgia prior to European settlers arriving and the events that occurred once they did arrive.   Ages 16 – Adult, $10 General Public/$5 CNC Members.


Drum Circle
WHEN: September 27th 8:00 PM – 10:00 PM
$5 Donation requested. Come and join the drum circle at the nature center the 4th Friday of the month thru September. Professional drum leader Chuck Cogliandro leads the rhythm as you take part in one of the most basic celebrations of music.  All experience levels and spectators welcome- please bring your own drum or rhythm instrument.


Rivers Alive
WHEN: September 28th 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Help clean up the Chattahoochee River during this annual event.  Head down to Riverside Park and join in with the clean-up.  Ages 8 – adult.


Stand up Paddleboarding 101
When: September 28th 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM
Two times to choose from (1 – 2pm or 3 – 4pm); We will begin filling spaces in the first time slot and when it fills we will move to the next one.)  This is your final chance to try out Stand Up Paddleboarding this year!   Walk on Water Adventures LLC is leading the program for those who are curious about trying paddle boarding for the first time and for those that have paddled before.  Class will teach entering and exiting the water safely and correct paddling techniques.  Come out and try this fun and exciting way to enjoy our beautiful water ways.   Paddle board, paddle and PFD will be provided. Primitive Skills Day
WHEN: September 29th 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM
From ancient methods of living from the land to a modern hybrid woodsmen, take part in a day all about surviving and thriving in the wild. Family fun for everyone, learn to make Lean–tos, Forts and Spider Shelters- 12:30-1:30pm  Our Naturalist will help you create the perfect hideaway using branches, pine needles and other natural stuff.
Beneficial Trees Walk: 1pm & 3pm – Masterwoodsman lead a guided walk through the woods and identify important woodland trees and share their uses to the early pioneers.
Early Games: 3-4pm -Play games enjoyed by children of local native American tribes and early settlers.
Native American Stories: 1:30pm & 3:30pm- Hear traditional tales of the Creek, Cherokee and other regional tribes.
Other interactive primitive skill demonstrations by members of Masterwoodsman in the exhibition area include:  Frontier Kitchen- Lack of fine cookware was no problem for pioneers. Learn how to cook anything over an open fire from roasting vegetables to baking bread. Taking Shelter- Explore different types of shelters from debris shelters made entirely of found woodland materials to modern lean-tos. Daily Tools- Cups, knives, rope and more all had to be made by hand. Learn techniques for finding traditional materials and making the tools that made daily life a little easier. Beneficial Trees- Pines, oaks, maples and other local trees all had different uses. Learn about the different types of trees that occur in this area and how they can best be used. Fire Making- Start a fire without a match? Discover different techniques for fire starting from bow and drill to flint strikes. Included in General Admission.
