There is a new water park opening up in Atlanta over Memorial Day weekend – Hurricane Harbor! Hurricane Harbor is an expansion to Six Flags Over Georgia and is the largest expansion in the park’s history. The new waterpark is in response to guests’ requests for more water. Wish granted!
A peek at the construction of Hurricane Harbor
The theme for Hurricane Harbor is a tropical island getaway. The lush tropical landscape and beach scenery will make guests feel like they are in a warm beach paradise. Six Flags Over Georgia’s new waterpark will be located where the Southern Star Amphitheater formerly stood, near The Great American Scream Machine.
Admission to Hurricane Harbor will be free with Six Flags Over Georgia general park admission or season passes – two great destinations for one great price! Truly, it will be more bang for your buck. Access to a multi-million dollar water park at no extra cost? Yes, please!
Hurricane Harbor Attractions
The big draw for Hurricane Harbor will be Calypso Bay Wave Pool, the 38,000 square foot wave pool featuring 800,000 gallons of water. That’s a lot of numbers, but basically it uses a state-of-the-art wave system that generates waves up to four feet high. It promises to be a draw for all ages.
Tsunami Surge is a dual-slide complex that boasts an enclosed five-story drop into a 40-footwide whirlpool and then finishes with a zero-gravity plunge out the bottom. This will not be for the faint of heart.
Bonzai Pipelines is another multi-slide complex on the other end of the park that also features swirling bowls, dark tunnels, and winding curves.
Hurricane Harbor will offer many other multi-slide towers, including a single slide tower that combines two extreme slide thrills!
Paradise Island will be an interactive water play area for kids. You might recognize it by its previous name, Skull Island. Children will enjoy the mini-slides, drenching towers, tipping buckets, climbing nets and even a child-size wave pool as well as many other interactive water elements and gadgets.
There are even more water features for the whole family to enjoy, including tube slides, slides that go through waterfalls, a white-water rafting adventure and even a lazy river that circles around the entire park for when you are ready for a rest.
If you visit Six Flags Over Georgia before Hurricane Harbor opens in May, take a ride on the Sky Buckets to get a birds-eye view of the pieces of the slide that will make up Tsunami Surge, as well as for the Bonzai Pipelines. Super fun!
Shopping & Rentals
If you forget to bring sunscreen or want to pick up a unique Hurricane Harbor souvenir, be sure to check out the Tradewinds shopping area.
Visitors will have the option of renting a cabana which features privacy and shade, for an additional fee. I am 100% in on the cabana idea. I want to know that we’ll have a comfortable and shaded place to relax and enjoy the view while we’re at Hurricane Harbor this summer.

I am a Six Flags Super Mom. I am part of a mom blogger team that has been given access to the park, the employee areas and some secret locations still in development such as Hurricane Harbor. I have been provided with an annual pass and compensation for my time. While I am encouraged to share how I feel and what I learned about the park, all opinions are my own.
My wife showed me this article and I’ve got to say that I am pretty excited about Hurricane Harbor. There’s something about it being at Six Flags that makes the experience seem more fun that your typical water park.
I will be glad to have another water park option near Atlanta. We love White Water and can’t wait to go to Hurricane Harbor to switch things up.
We are so excited about Hurricane Harbor! My 15 year old daughter has already invited a few of her friends to go with us in June. We are going to wait a couple of weeks before going in hopes that the crowds won’t be too wild. Do you know how much the cabana rental will cost?
I’m sure your daughter and her friends will have a lot of fun at Six Flags and Hurricane Harbor! I don’t see official cabana rental prices on the Six Flags website yet but if the prices of Hurricane Harbor rentals at Six Flags’ in other states indicates anything, the cost will range from $125-$175.
I would like to know about the cabana rental cost too.
