The holidays are a hectic time of year. With all the shopping, decorating, and running here and there it can be hard to find time for the kids, and after all, isn’t Christmas a time for making family memories? If you’re looking for a break from all the hustle and bustle, a road trip to Gaylord Opryland’s A Country Christmas just might be the answer. Along with being a huge Nashville resort, there are plenty of activities for you and the kids to enjoy.

My family recently had an amazing time at Opryland Resort in Nashville, a 3.5 hour drive from our home just north of Atlanta.   My husband and son had not been to Opryland before but my daughter and I had, so my daughter was so excited for them and every 30 minutes during the drive she asked me if it was time for them to close their eyes yet.   When we arrived at Opryland, and after the boys were allowed to open their eyes, we were in awe.  All of us.   The Nutcrackers, lights, outdoor nativity scene, and Christmas activities set up on the grounds, are beautiful.  We spent our entire stay at Opryland exploring inside the resort and outside.   My favorite indoor activity at Opryland is the Delta River Boat Tour, Madelyn’s favorite activity at Opryland is usually shopping but this time it was the snow tubing, my husband’s favorite thing to do during our stay was ICE!, and my son’s favorite thing at Opryland was the ICE! walkthrough exhibit and walking across the indoor bridges inside the resort’s buildings.

Arctic Plunge Snow Tubing

On the Event Center lawn you’ll find six lanes of extreme tubing on a hill blanketed with 1.5 million pounds of honest to goodness snow. You’ll experience amazing thrills while racing each other to the bottom. For those with smaller children, double riding tubes are available. It costs $17.99 per person on weekends and December 19th through January 2nd. It’s $15.99 Monday through Fridays.

ICE! featuring ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas

See Ma in her kerchief, Pa in his cap and more as the classic holiday poem, ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas, is brought to life in TWO MILLION pounds of hand-carved ice sculptures, including two-story tall ice slides. This awe-inspiring experience concludes with the wonder and majesty of a full Nativity in stunning, crystal clear ice. It is all part of A Country Christmas at Gaylord Opryland.
