2015 Atlanta Summer Camp: Georgia Tech College of Computing Summer Camps

Georgia Tech College of Computing Summer Camps

Our goal is to expose elementary and middle school students to the creative side of computing so that they may add computing to their creative tool set and use it as a life-long means of expression. In addition to computing, campers are exposed to a bit of the college life as they go on camps tours; eat lunch in one of our cafeterias and swim in our recreation center. (All of these experiences are included in the cost of the camp.)

Computing Crafts

Campers will be exposed to computing from an arts and crafts point of view. They will apply basic computing techniques to create moving portraits that sense light levels; origami figures that move on command; and other artistic kinetic creations. If your camper is into arts and crafts and would like to bring their work to life, this camp is an opportunity to further their creative reach.

Dates: May 26 – May 29 and July 6 – July 10

May 26 – May 29: (4-day week) Cost- $290

July 6 – July 10: Cost- $350

Participants: Rising 3rd – Rising 10th

Robotics

Campers will build robots that move and contain sensing systems. They will be exposed to basic computing and problem solving techniques via LEGO creatures that sense and react; paper robots that follow lines; computer controlled marionette puppets; and stuffed animals that move.

Dates: June 1 – June 5 and July 20 – July 24

Cost: $350

Participants: Rising 3rd – Rising 10th

Music

Musical expression and computing creativity will be combined to expose campers to the auditory side of computing. Campers will create drums, guitars, keyboards, and their own computerized music. No prior experience in music or computer programming needed.

Dates: June 8 – June 12 and July 13 – July 17

Cost: $350

Grades: Rising 3rd – Rising 10th

Games

Playing games can be fun and even educational. However, making your own game is empowering. Campers will learn the creative and computational side of game making. They will apply math skills; problem solve; think critically; and communicate with others as they make their own game creations.

Dates: June 15 – June 19 and June 29 – July 2 (4 day week)

Participants: Rising 3rd – Rising 10th

Cost:

June 15 – June 19 $350

June 29 -July 2 (4-day week) $290

Wearables

Shoes, hats, jewelry and shirts! Combine these with computing and you have expression on the move. Your shoes can count steps; your hat can display your style; jewelry can bling like never before and a plain t-shirt can out shine the rest. Add lights, wires, electronics and some programming to these everyday items to learn computing through fashion and design your own wearable creations.

Dates: June 22 – June 26 and July 27 – July 31

Cost: $350

Participants: Rising 3rd – Rising 10th
