A Chattahoochee Nature Center tradition since 1993, Camp Kingfisher has provided an unforgettable camp experience to thousands of children and young adults including Atlanta Moms® Editor’s two children.  We want all campers to have FUN outdoors, discover their connection to nature, and build strong character along the way.

Outdoor adventuring and learning abounds on CNC’s 127 incredible acres. We hike, swim, see wildlife, canoe, investigate, craft, and more. Activities and science themes encourage personal growth, teamwork, and environmental stewardship in campers. Staff at Camp Kingfisher are passionate about childcare, the outdoors, and camp’s mission.

Owlets- (ow-ell-ets) noun.

1. baby owls

2. a half-day camp for 4 year olds at Camp Kingfisher

Our NEW Owlet camp is the perfect ½ day experience for 4 year olds.   Owlets Camp is designed from the ground up to be an introduction to the best nature camp in Atlanta.

One week sessions will be available every week this summer. Look forward to shorter hikes, plenty of outdoor free play, swimming, and live animal encounters! With a manageable schedule of 8:30am-12:30pm, Owlet campers will get plenty of outside time and frequent indoor air-conditioned breaks for water, sunscreen, and storybook “Turtle Time.”

Owlets are signed-up based on a 1:5 counselor-to-camper ratio. Groups generally have 15 campers and 3 counselors. In rare cases, we will increase the ratio to a maximum of 1:6.

Camp Kingsher’s Owlet Camp runs from 8:30am-12:30pm. The camper day is split into 4 shorter activity periods, turtle time, an outdoor lunch, and 1 snack time. Owlet campers will not participate in canoeing. Educational content varies based on the Camp Kingsher session theme.

Highlighted OWLET Activity: Free Play

Unstructured but always supervised, free play with owlets is the old-fashioned nature play we used to do: catching fireflies, finding frogs, exploring a small creek, and digging holes to “China.” The counselor picks an area free of hazards, sets the rules and boundaries, and then lets the kids go. It’s amazing how the campers’ imaginations ourish when they get to choose their own game.

Highlighted OWLET Activity: Swimming at the CNC Pool

CNC maintains a newly renovated junior-Olympic size pool for use by all of our campers. There are 2 trained lifeguards, one counselor as an extra set of eyes on the pool, and 2 sta swimming with the campers. The pool is 3.5 feet at the shallow end, 12 at the deep end. There are wide stairs at the shallow end for kids who do not want to go all the way into the water and we do have noodles and kickboards for beginners in the shallow end.
