When Sebastian was young he and I would go out to eat, just the two of us, once every couple of months. His favorite restaurant was Carabba’s. He’d order Pasta Carabba and devour the incredibly delicious warm bread while we chatted about life as a 6-year-old. Now he’s 16 and doesn’t care a bit about going out to eat or spending time with me. Nah, that’s not true. He is super sweet and we have great chats, even if just in the car on the way home from school.
Between work, helping with homework, controlling the dog – and the kids, doing laundry, etc, I am often exhausted by 6pm and don’t feel like preparing a meal. I bet that sounds familiar. Then there are evenings when I look in the refrigerator for meat and veggies and they’re either invisible or they’ve been eaten and I failed to replenish them. You choose. 😉 “How about a glass of milk for dinner?” I’ll ask the kids. But that doesn’t fly with a 16 and 10 year old. Or any child for that matter.
Sure, I could order a pizza, but I don’t like all the cheese and grease that comes with typical pizza delivery options and I don’t always feel like driving to our local *good* pizza place to pick up pizza. I learned about an amazing food delivery service, DoorDash, a couple of weeks ago and know now that (a) I don’t have to worry so much if the food is invisible because I can have food delivered to my doorstep and (b) there’s a possibility my kids might think I know how to cook – if, and only if, they don’t know about the delivery. Exciting, right?! If, around 2 or 3pm I realize that I am going to be bogged down with work and shuttling the kids to and from school, and won’t be able to make it to the store, I can open the DoorDash app on my phone, or go to the DoorDash website, order a meal from one of dozens of local restaurants and schedule it to be delivered at 6:30pm.
Download the DoorDash app on your iOS or Android device or go to DoorDash.com to order your first meal to be delivered by a Dasher. After entering your address you will see a list of restaurants a DoorDash driver can pick up and deliver an order from. Sort restaurants by ‘Delight’ (rating), price, or speed.
I ordered our first DoorDash meal from none other than Carabba’s. From what I can tell the full menu is available through the DoorDash app and ordering our favorite dish, Pasta Carabba, was as easy as clicking the menu item. To my delight, even the bread arrived warm, just like I remember in the restaurant. So delicious! The kids and Tim appreciated the meal, and not having to wash pots and pans after dinner.
As I mentioned above, the process of ordering food from DoorDash is easy, but don’t worry, you’re not left in the dark after you click the checkout button like with many restaurant delivery services. Notifications are sent to your device letting you know your order was placed, when the driver picks up your order, and when the driver has left the restaurant.
You can choose to have your order delivered ASAP, or at a specific available time later in the day or up to four days in the future; great for when you’re in a rush or need to plan ahead.
Not only is DoorDash helping busy moms like me by delivering delicious food to my doorstep, but DoorDash has a dramatic, positive effect on local economies by connecting consumers with merchants via their amazing Dashers.
