January is the time to set goals, keep resolutions, and try to be better in the coming year. It’s no different with preschool children, but how do you keep them on track with their goals?
A few tips can go a long way this year as you keep your children—and yourself—on track to meet your goals.
- Write them down.
The first and easiest thing to do to focus on your child’s resolutions is to simply write them down. It’s hard to keep track of something that’s lost in the nebula of your mind. Using your phone’s reminders or notes, or a plain old-fashioned paper and pencil, write down your child’s resolutions and simple steps to get there.
- Review them monthly.
After you’ve written down the resolutions and the basic steps to accomplishing them, it’s best to look them over once a month. Reflect on your child’s progress and how she is accomplishing her goals along the way.
- Celebrate accomplishments.
Science proves that we need encouragement for our achievements. We need little celebrations for victories when we’re trying something difficult. Sticking to resolutions can be tough for a lot of people, especially kids! If your child makes progress in her goal setting, celebrate that! Show her that it’s really tough, yet really valuable, to keep your resolutions, and that hard work pays off!
This year, write down your child’s resolutions and goals, make sure you review them along the way, and celebrate each achievement. These little things can go a long way this year.
