Big Shanty Festival – April 22nd

The 41st annual Superior Plumbing/Big Shanty Festival returns to downtown Kennesaw April 22-23. The family-friendly festival, co-sponsored by the City of Kennesaw and the Kennesaw Business Association (KBA), is one of the largest arts and crafts show in northern Georgia, offering more than 200 booths of crafters and artisans as well as live entertainment on several stages, children’s activities and more than 40 food options. A parade down Main Street opens the festival on Saturday at 9:30 am featuring local high school bands, colorful floats, and over 2,000 young marchers.

Among the other attractions will be a Civil War encampment in Depot Park; a Kids’ Zone with inflatables; Kristen Johnson, aka Lady Houdini, an escape artist who has successfully performed thousands of public feats and broken Harry Houdini’s record for the most water escapes ever; K-9s in Flight, a non-stop, action-packed performance showcasing K-9 dock diving, high jump and Frisbee; Walking TreeMan, over 12-feet tall and barely distinguishable from the real trees, strolling through the festival; and performances by local dance and demonstration teams and school choruses.

During the festival, roads in downtown Kennesaw will be closed beginning at 6 pm on Friday, April 21 and will reopen at 8 pm Sunday. A list of the closures can be found at kennesaw-ga.gov. The festival hours are Saturday, April 22 from 10 am – 6 pm and Sunday, April 23 from 12 – 5 pm.
