Technology Tips for Preschool Children

Kids and technologyIs preschool too early for introducing educational technology? With a lot of hype around the amount of screen time children get every day, it can be difficult for parents and teachers to know how much is too much when it comes to technology. While moderation is a key part of every type of behavior, technology has become an extremely helpful tool for teachers who teach preschool through high school—and beyond!

If you have a toddler or preschooler living at home, you know fleeting attention spans are prevalent at this stage of life. Preschool and kindergarten teachers face the predicament of keeping new information interesting and engaging for little minds and antsy hands and feet! The use of technology in a preschool classroom adds an interactive, hands-on dynamic that helps keep students engaged in learning while using a different educational tool.

Smartboard Technology

Smartboard technology is one popular tool used in many elite learning academies to enhance preschoolers’ understanding of shapes, colors, numbers, and more! When educational technology is used alongside more traditional teaching through large and small group teaching it provides a new layer of comprehension and opportunity for children to interact with new information.

Boost Self-esteem and Confidence

There is also significant motivation for young children to learn how to use the technology around them. Children see parents and others on smartphones, laptops, and tablets throughout the day and want to be able to “keep up” with this phenomenon. As your preschooler becomes more comfortable with technology, this will help boost self-esteem and confidence!

For the Future

As your child grows up and progresses through elementary, middle, and high school education, having a good grasp on educational technology is just one less hurdle. Additionally, as students mature, many teachers use educational technology to help students learn at their own pace. Allowing students to complete activities independently on a computer or tablet gives teachers the chance to help those who need more assistance without slowing down the pace of other learners.

Everything in Moderation

While it may seem hard to believe that a toddler or preschooler can effectively use a tablet or smartphone, we’ve all seen it in person! Using educational tools is just one way technology can have a positive impact on your child’s learning experience. Again, with every tool or resource, moderation is key! The best preschool curriculums incorporate learning technology alongside small group and large group learning stations.
