Valentine’s Day With Preschoolers

Valentine's DayRoses are red, clouds are gray…

How do I teach my preschooler about Valentine’s Day?

Across the nation, the month of February is filled with paper hearts, chocolate, and pink and red as far as the eye can see. Your preschooler may associate Valentine’s Day with silly, fun notes for friends and family, or they may be focused on the candy and other sweet treats the day brings. But what is Valentine’s Day really all about?

For some, it’s the perfect opportunity to express one’s feelings for that special someone. For others, it’s simply a time to reflect on and show gratitude for any loved ones, whether that be friends or family. At the end of the day, Valentine’s Day is all about showing love to the important people in your life.

There are numerous ways you can help your preschooler understand and celebrate Valentine’s Day, starting with a bunch of fun crafts, of course! Here are a few we love:

Make Valentine’s Cards For Friends/Family

This one is a given. Whether you buy Disney-themed cards from your local grocery store, or start with a blank sheet of paper and end up with a sweet-as-can-be masterpiece, everyone loves receiving Valentine’s Day cards! Have fun, get creative, and spread the love.

Bake Sweet Treats

Go ahead and preheat the oven now; you won’t want to wait on these delicious cupcakes! Soft, buttermilk cake, cream cheese frosting, and heart-shaped sprinkles make for the perfect batch of Pink Velvet Cupcakes. This activity is tons of fun and tastes even better.

Create Valentine’s Day Crowns

Turn your preschoolers into kings and queens with these super cute crowns! With styrofoam hearts, stickers, markers, and pipe cleaners, you can transform a plain poster board into a crown fit for royalty!

DIY Valentine’s Card Box

If your preschooler is expecting to exchange Valentine’s Day cards at school, you may need to create a box ahead of time so they have somewhere to store their cards. Check out these ten easy ideas for adorable and fun Valentine’s boxes!

However you choose to celebrate on the 14th of February, remember to focus on sharing love and spending quality time with your little ones. They’ll have an understanding and appreciation for this sweet holiday in no time!
