School’s back in session and parents are busy driving school-age kids to and from school, sports, and other after-school activities.  What does that leave the little one’s to do?  Sure, your three year old can watch the clouds float by from her car seat and perhaps she enjoys naming cars as they pass… Porsche, Nissan, Toyota, Volvo.. actually that would be pretty great if a 3-year old could do that.  It’s always nice for your toddler/preschooler to get some educational time in while you’re toting the older kids around, don’t you agree?   If you have a smartphone or tablet, you have one of the most popular educational tools on the planet, right there with you and within your child’s reach.   There are many educational apps available in iTunes and Google Play but there are a few that stand out from the rest.  Turtle Invaders is one of those few.

The turtles have decided to take over the underwater Aqua world. The fearless Octoremus has decided to fight back! In order to stop the turtles, Octoremus must ink the turtles, which magically transport them back to their own lair. The turtles, of course, can fight back.

My Experience Playing Turtle Invaders:

Turtle Invaders app reviewAt the start of the game I was given the option to select a level of difficulty, turtle speed, octopus speed, number of lives and number of turtles.   Thinking this game is for toddlers, I chose the hardest level of difficulty, a fast turtle speed and fast octopus speed.  Yikes!  My eyes were bouncing back and forth from one side of the screen to the other when the game began.  It was worse than a tennis match!  It was then that I realized that this game has potential to pull even the busiest adult in.  I could do some serious turtle inking while in the car pool line. 🙂  After that fun experience, I switched the turtle and octopus speeds to slow and a difficulty level of easy, with some (an actual option) turtles, not ‘many’ like I had selected before.  There were turtles swimming all over the screen before; after my new selection I was confronted with far fewer and slower turtles making it a bit more of a relaxing starting experience.   After inking several turtles but not all of them, I noticed that they started swimming downward, toward me, the octopus.  This is where it got tricky.. and more fun!  I had to ink all of the turtles before they made their way down to the bottom of the screen where I was perusing the safe ocean floor.  Once a turtle came in contact with me, I was a goner and the game was over.    The graphics are great and the music is good but I would like to see more music options with one being more relaxing, maybe like a Caribbean theme.
