Atlanta Young Writers Institute Summer Writing Intensive
The AYWI Summer Writing Intensive challenges dedicated rising 10th through 12th graders to investigate deeply the many facets of storytelling, and then focus their energy, enthusiasm, and learning toward crafting original fiction or creative nonfiction works. The Intensive begins as a survey course, with writers studying various genres of fiction and nonfiction storytelling before constructing individual projects reflective of their writing interests. Writers may complete the workshop with the opening chapter(s) of a novel, a one-act stage or screenplay, a short story, or a collection of poems. Each project is undertaken with the support of an Intensive instructor, and writers receive peer feedback as they work, as well as regular one-on-one conferencing with instructors. Program components also include Master Class with writing professionals and literary field trips.
This year’s Intensive will be held on the beautiful campus of Agnes Scott College from Monday, June 6, through Friday, June 17, 2011. Note: The Intensive provides an in-depth and rigorous writing experience that truly “grows” its writers. Space is therefore limited to 16 rising tenth through twelfth graders.
