We have been so busy this month that we haven’t bought a pumpkin even though we pass by a really great pumpkin patch almost every day! I love looking at the pumpkin patch as we pass by it, but speaking from experience, they charge quite a bit more for their pumpkins than grocery stores and places like Pike Nurseries.
Pumpkins are 50% off at all Pike Nurseries locations – A great deal for last-minute carvers and decorators! Carve (pun intended) out some time in the next couple of days to stop by your nearest Pike Nurseries location and pick up a pumpkin or two.
What to Look for When Selecting A Pumpkin to Carve
- Decide if the pumpkin is going to be viewed from all sides
- If so, look for a pumpkin with as few blemishes as possible
- Look for a pumpkin that doesn’t have a flatter, yellow side from laying on the dirt
- Look for a bright orange pumpkin without bruises and soft spots
- The pumpkin stem should be attached and pretty sturdy – this will let you know it’s fresh
- You should carry a pumpkin from the bottom rather than the stem
- Even a fresh pumpkin’s stem can break off when carried by the stem
- Pike Nurseries displays pumpkins on tables so you can easily see and pick-up the pumpkins
