I’ve been working from home for over 10 years. It hasn’t been easy but I wouldn’t change it for anything.
Here’s my Work from Home Story:
I started Atlanta Moms™ in 2001 when my son was a baby because I had just been in a car accident that left me unable to leave the house or work away from home, for months. I attended online classes at Kennesaw State University for website design and development, and created Atlanta Moms™ as my first web design project for class. Little did I know that the site would become such a great resource for Atlanta parents and that it would help support my family for so long. I did not have an official plan for the website {Atlanta Moms™} or for the next site I would launch, The Mommy Insider, in 2005. BUT because I was determined to work from home and make a fullt-time income, and to provide the best resources for local and national parents and because I worked long and hard to find those resources and share them with my readers, both sites are very successful.

I think the biggest thing holding me back is not really the most typical ones: time and money. My greatest hurdle is actually fear of failure. My brother is very entrepreneurial and started his business 15 years ago. He was successful almost immediately and had a lot of good fortune along the way (with a ton of hard work added in, of course). I have created so many businesses in my mind and then sat back and watched (sometimes years later) that same idea put into action by a mom and take off. Of course there is the “I knew I should have” feeling that washes over me – it’s difficult to actually take that first step and know you are putting yourself out there; risking failure and embarrassment. I give a lot of credit to the women/moms who just say, “I’m going to do this – no safety net and no guarantees – Well, that’s my hurdle. Thanks to you for your video and book and motivational message.
Fear of failure and finances have been the reason I have not started my own business.
I did all the mandatory entries also. I watch the video which was very informative. I will be purchasing the book even if I don’t win one. I’m so ready for a change.
Laquenda – Fear and finances are legitimate concerns. Whether you win the giveaway or buy the book, you can read how the mom business owners I feature came up with some creative ways to keep their start-up costs low when they first started out. I should point out, we all work from home so there’s no huge overheard like rent. Even if your business idea includes a brick & mortar business there are some creative ways to negotiate in this real estate market.

Hi Avery! Thanks for watching the video and for your comments. Your fears are normal and justified. I’ve been in business for about a year and I’m still scared to take certain challenges. It’s all a risk. But I’ve never met an entrepreneur who “plays it safe.”
They all did something big and bold to see what would happen.
I don’t know what your background or skill level is, but I encourage you to pick something you’re passionate about and make it a business.
You’re welcome to follow Mommy Talk Show on Facebook (http://facebook.com/MommyTalkShow) and e-mail me with questions.
I’m not an expert on a lot of things, but I know how to find experts who can help.
I really wanted to win this e-book but my email is full enough, so I do not subscribe to things as entry to giveaways. Thanks anyway.
Sadie – I understand. The book sells for $17.95 but there’s a coupon code on the Mommy Talk Show fan page that allows you to purchase the book for $7 – http://bit.ly/uPFIDj
