Throughout October – Nature Exchange

We invite you to see the spooky side of nature in the Nature Exchange in October. Do you dare to put your hands in the mystery boxes? Are you brave enough to explore the devils walking sticks and creeper vines in the Frightening Flora Mini exhibit? Do you have the guts to trade for snake sheds, spider molts and ghost crab shells?

CNC Animal Election Day Poster Contest

WHEN: October 1st – October 28th

Some of CNC’s animals are running for election and they need your help! Create a campaign poster for the Raptor Party, the Mammal Party or the Reptile Party to help people choose the winning party in the CNC Animal election on November 6. Posters are due by October 28. Georgia Nature Photographers Association Exhibit at the Chattahoochee Nature Center

WHEN: September 25th – December 5th

The Georgia Nature Photographers Association (GNPA) in partnership with the Chattahoochee Nature Center (CNC) is pleased to present a juried exhibition of wildlife, landscape, and macro images. These images represent a sample of the best work by the more than 300 members of the GNPA.    The GNPA is dedicated to helping nature photographers of all skill levels improve their photography, learn and grow, meet other outdoor photographers, participate in great trips and events, help others understand the value of the natural world, and give focus to a special area of interest in photography.


Story Time by the River

WHEN: 1st Wednesday of the month  at 10:30 AM

Join volunteers for a fun story time at CNC. Using books, puppets, and other props, they tell stories all about nature. Ages 3 – 5.


Creature Feature

WHEN: Thursdays and Fridays at 4:00 PM

All Ages
Join us every Thursday and Friday at 4 pm for Creature Feature!  Meet one of our native, resident animals with a CNC Naturalist.  Each month will be a different theme so Creature Feature is always exciting! Location will vary so check with admissions desk when you arrive!


Trail Hikes

WHEN: Saturdays and Sundays at 1:00PM

A CNC docent guides you on a journey through the CNC trails using biofacts and activities to spark your “natural” curiosity.


Feeding Time

WHEN: Tuesdays and Saturdays at 4:00PM

Join a naturalist for an in-depth look at one of our resident animals as our Wildlife Department feeds them!


Animal Encounter

WHEN: Sundays at 4:00 PM

Learn about the native wildlife living at CNC through a 30-minute live animal presentation with one of our naturalists or docents.


Creepy Critters and Uncanny Plants

WHEN: Saturday, October 13, 11 – 3pm, All Ages

Included with general admission, CNC members free
A day all about the plants and animals that make the night lively and the skin crawl!
Live Bats: 11am, 1pm, & 2pm: Learn all about these amazing flying mammals with the fruit bats of A-Z Animals. This live bat presentation will fill quickly. Seating is available on a first come basis, please plan to arrive early for this special treat.
See a Snake and Ogle an Owl: 12pm: Meet two of CNC’s spookiest animal ambassadors and learn how they got their spooky reputations.
Eeek-O-Friendly Costume Swap: 11am – 3pm: Turn in your cape and trade your tutu! Swap your old costumes for something new to wear this spooky season. CNC is an official participant of the Green Halloween National Costume Swap Day TM
Insect Bio-Buggy: 1-3pm: A cart full of activities and fun about eerie animals with loads of legs.
Ugly Bug Ball: Book Signing 1-2pm, Live Reading 3pm, Meet the authors of the new book The Ugly Bug Ball and enjoy a live reading of this insect centered story.
Frightening Flora Mini Exhibit: Devil Claws, Witch Hazel and The Vine that Ate the South are just a few of the creepy plants you will find in this special exhibit in the Nature Exchange.


River Canoe Trips – Last of the Season

WHEN: Saturday and Sunday, October 13th and 14th at 4:30 PM

Ages 6 to Adult, $30 General Public/$25 Members, Advanced Registration is Required
The ‘Hooch is still calling! If you haven’t made it out on a trip this summer, now is the perfect time to go paddle! Experience rich wildlife as you join knowledgable river guides. Learn the history, habitat & ecology of the watershed – all while enjoying the serenity the river offers. CNC provides all equipment for participants.

Join us for a beautiful fall afternoon dedicated to fresh food, cooking healthy! Local chefs will help CNC raise awareness about the benefits of incorporating locally grown product into our daily lives.  This exciting event spotlights the Unity Garden established by Kaiser Permanente in 2010.  The Garden provides fresh fruit and vegetables to North Fulton Community Charities’ Food Pantry.  Havest on the ‘Hooch will feature talented local chefs that understand the value of the farm-to-table movement including chefs from: SEED, PARSELEY’S CATERING, MUSS & TURNER, WHOLE FOODS, & MILTON’S. Every third Thursday of the month the GNPA holds its’ monthly meeting at the Mansour Center located in Marietta. Ninth Annual Eagles for Eagles Charity Golf Tournament

WHEN: Monday, October 22nd at 9:00AM

Join us at the Atlanta National Golf Club, 9 a.m. – Shot Gun Start
It’s a great opportunity to have fun, while benefiting the Chattahoochee Nature Center. The funds raised underwrite the work done in educating our community and the region about this wonderful natural resource that we all share, the Chattahoochee River Watershed.  All players receive an outstanding tee gift package and swag bag, and the knowledge that they are making a difference.  Prizes and awards will be given for the top 3 Low Net Teams and top tee 3 Low Gross Teams as well as prizes for Closest to the Pin, and the Longest Drive.

The Nature Club

WHEN: Thursday, October 25th from 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM

Spend your evening socializing with like-minded folks. We are pleased to have John Jensen, a biologist with the Department Of Natural Resources. John will be dispelling common myths and misconceptions about snakes and will have a few of his slithering, scaly friends on hand. Bring your herpaphobic friends! All participants (1 per family if more than one attending) should bring a vegetarian dish to share. CNC will provide reusable plates, napkins & utensils (some folks also bring their own utensils and do not use disposables in an effort to aid in our conservation efforts.)
