Chattooga School of Dance and Gymnastics, founded in the 1970’s by Cindy Bickman and her parents, is named after the Indian word Chattooga which means “stepping stones of growth.”
AtlantaMoms.com founder, Alicia Hagan, has seen first hand the effects that Chattooga School of Gymnastics and Dance located in Cobb County, has had on children of all ages and abilities. Cindy Bickman and the instructors at Chattooga show their students, disabled and not, unconditional love and attention and that is what keeps parents and students happy and motivated.
Students are given the opportunity to take classes including rhythmic and artistic gymnastics, ballet, and fitness. Adult classes are offered as well. A fun and challenging environment is what students are welcomed into at Chattooga School of Dance and Gymnastics and while there are ‘dance moms’ that spend many hours at Chattooga, they are not like those that you see on television. These dance moms gather in the lobby area and discuss upcoming travels with the team, for Special Olympics, and other topics relevant to enriching their child’s gymnastics career and life. Negativity does not reside in the parent’s waiting area at Chattooga.
AtlantaMoms.com founder’s daughter has taken classes at Chattooga School of Gymnastics and Dance for over three years and while her daughter, 7-years-old, does not necessarily aspire to be a professional ballet dancer or gymnast, she does get a great deal of joy from attending her weekly dance & gymnastics class amongst others her age with and without disabilities. Alicia’s daughter has grown to be more aware and understanding of children with disabilities than she might have otherwise if she was not given the opportunity to spend time at Chattooga. Children, and adults, of all ages and abilities practice dance and gymnastics with smiles on their faces, hope in their eyes, and pride in their hearts at Chattooga School of Gymnastics & Dance in Cobb County.

Chattooga’s, 31-person performance group from Marietta, Ga., recently earned a bronze medal in the large group category at the 2013 Gym for Life World Challenge in Cape Town, South Africa.
