Fernbank’s Martinis & IMAX® Kicks Off Summer with Summer Block Party Series

Fernbank’s Martinis & IMAX®

As the weather heats up, Atlanta’s Fernbank Museum is cooling things down with the Martinis & IMAX® Summer Block Party, featuring a selection of micro craft breweries, a variety of games, new films in the IMAX® Theatre and different live entertainment every Friday night.

The Martinis & IMAX® Summer Block Party will also take advantage of the Museum’s back patio, which will take the fun outside with popular summer games, full bars that include craft beers, and music (weather permitting). Inside, the live bands or DJs will keep the window-filled Great Hall shining with the summer vibe with great live music or Salsa Night DJs. The new tapas menu perfectly complements the summer drink menu, featuring sharable bites by Chef Danielle, who competed on TV’s Hell’s Kitchen. Tapas include handmade flatbreads, salads, empanadas, stuffed mushrooms, fried artichokes and more.

One highlight of the Summer Block Party is the seasonal craft beer menu that will change monthly. Beer is a sought-after beverage in the summer months, with the Wall Street Journal reporting last year that nearly one-third of all annual beer sales take place between Memorial Day and Labor Day, a 13 percent spike over the average. With craft beers becoming more popular in recent years, surging by nearly 17.6 percent in 2014*, Martinis & IMAX® is upping its offerings of craft beers this summer. Craft brews will change monthly and will include selections by Mother Earth Brewing, Finch’s Beer Company, Orpheus Brewing, Second Self Beer Company, Terrapin Beer Company, and other regional and local breweries.

Fernbank hasn’t forgotten the martinis or the IMAX films, though. A full selection of cocktails and wine will also be available throughout the summer, including several specialty cocktails. Films on the five-story IMAX® screen will offer a variety of opportunities to explore nature, science and more.

Showing through June 18, Humpback Whales takes audiences on an extraordinary journey into the mysterious world of one of nature’s most awe-inspiring marine mammals. Set in the spectacular waters of Alaska, Hawaii and the remote islands of Tonga, this ocean adventure offers audiences an up-close look at how whales communicate, sing, feed, play and take care of their young.

Showing through July 16, Mysteries of the Unseen World transports audiences to places on the planet they’ve never been before, to see things that are beyond their normal vision yet are literally right in front of their eyes.

Opening June 19, Jean-Michele Cousteau’s Secret Ocean reveals the hidden beauty of our oceans  as audiences dive into this whole new world, leaving them in awe of the beauty and diversity of the oceans.

Between films and throughout the evening, live entertainment keeps the summer celebration active with live music from local and regional bands such as Lethal Rhythms, The HoboHemians, Villain Family and Mr. Bluesky, or the monthly Salsa Nights on the third Friday of each month, featuring a DJ, dancing and lessons by Salsambo Dance Studio.

Summer Block Party activities are included with the purchase of an IMAX ticket. Food and drink menus are offered a la carte. Martinis & IMAX® tickets with an IMAX film are $13 and $8 for Museum members. Guest can also enjoy the atmosphere of the event without purchasing a film ticket for $8.

Martinis & IMAX® is offered for adults 21 and up on Fridays from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. with live entertainment starting at 7:30 p.m.Fernbank Museum of Natural History is located at 767 Clifton Road NE in Atlanta. For more information visit fernbankmuseum.org.
