The aroma of jerk cuisine, roast fish, curry, mannish water, roti, bake and salt fish, and various other succulent Caribbean culinary specialties will tickle your senses. Add to that the pulsating sounds of Reggae, Dancehall, Calypso and Soca. You could very well mistake the Georgia capital for a Caribbean capital city, say Kingston, Port of Spain, or Georgetown.
As the only event of its type in the state of Georgia, and one of the largest Caribbean themed food festivals in the USA, the annual Grace Atlanta Caribbean Jerk Festival has been showcasing the flavors and rhythms of the Caribbean in Georgia and surrounding states for the past ten years. There are few better combinations than tasty food and hot pulsating music set in a relaxed atmosphere. Festival co-founder and Executive Director Glen Simmonds invites everyone to, “Come for the food and stay for the fun!!”
This annual celebration of Caribbean food and music features live reggae, calypso, gospel and jazz performances by national and international acts on the festival main stage. There are food vendors, craft vendors, fruit vendors, and even jelly coconut vendors. There will be games and prizes galore for the kids in their very own Kid Zone. There is also a young people’s activity area. The competition inside the games tent is always intense as dominoes experts battle for supremacy. Can anyone say 6 love!! Lovers of ludo, bingo, and checkers will also have the opportunity to match skill and wits against each other.
The 10th Annual Grace Atlanta Caribbean Jerk Festival is scheduled for Sunday September 6, 2015 (the day before Labor Day) from noon until 11pm at Panthersville Stadium located 2817 Clifton Springs Road in Decatur, Georgia.
