Intro to Geocaching
Join the Georgia Geocaching Association as you learn the basics of geocaching. Participants will learn how to use a GPS unit, how to hunt for geocaches and even how to start your own. Workshop concludes with a hunt for some of the most popular geocaches at CNC.  Please bring a geocaching ready GPS unit. Ages 8 – adult (participants under 16 must be accompanied by an adult) $12 Non-Members/ $8 Members.Pre-Registration Required.

Bats and Karst Conservation: A Modern Day Shift
The Dogwood City Grotto (DCG), a local caving club and chapter member of the National Speleological Society, will be hosting a FREE seminar.  The seminar will include two speakers who will be presenting on various topics as it relates to Bat and Cave Conservation.  Jim Kennedy, a bat biologist with Bat Conservation International, Inc. (BCI) will be highlighting the many achievements and projects this organization has accomplished during its thirty year lifetime.  The second speaker, John Lovaas, President of the Illinois Speleological Survey, will be discussing a recent issue in Wisconsin whereby he and many local cavers were able to impact public decision making which greatly helped to protect bats and cave resources in that State.

33rd Annual Possum Trot 10K race and 1 Mile Fun Run
The possum is running for the 33rd time!  The Possum Trot 10K race benefits the Chattahoochee Nature Center at 9135 Willeo Road in Roswell.  Join this amazing annual race on a smooth, certified course with scenic views of the Chattahoochee River. This official qualifier for the 2012 Peachtree Road Race along the Chattahoochee River in Roswell is a fast paced benefit race to support the Chattahoochee Nature Center.

Summer Solstice Celebration
The Summer Solstice is a major celestial event that marks the longest day, and shortest night, of the year. Orienteering Workshop
Let the forest be your maze and a compass your guide as you explore CNC’s own orienteering course. “Rocketry and the Apollo Missions”
Jorge Blanco will introduce us to model rocketry as well as challenge us to build our own rockets. He will be joined by Charles Carter, who will share his own experiences with rockets, including his work on the Saturn 5, the biggest rocket ever built. A 1/24 scale (16 feet tall) Saturn 5 flying model rocket will be on display during the lecture.

As part of the Gone With the Wind 75th Anniversary programming, the Atlanta History Center is honored to be one of only two venues to display chapters of the original Gone With the Wind manuscript.  On loan from the Pequot Library in Southport Connecticut, these pages are “considered a precious literary artifact,” according to Chris Coover, head of Rare Books & Manuscripts at Christie’s.
