Creature Feature – Amazing Adaptations
WHEN: Thursdays & Fridays at 4 pm and Saturdays & Sundays at 2 pm
Nature is full of unusual and weird ways to get by.  Come out to CNC during the month to find out how Georgia animals are adapted to survive some of our own wacky weather and habitats – plus visit with a live animal!!  All Ages.

River Canoe Trips
WHEN: Saturdays at 8:30am & 5:00pm and Sundays at 5pm
Ages 6 – adult. Pre-Registration Required. The ‘Hooch is still calling!  If you haven’t made it out on a trip this summer, now is the perfect time to go paddle!  Each trip is led by a CNC naturalist and offers a unique introduction to the ecology of the Chattahoochee River.

Family Bird Walk
WHEN: Saturday September 3rd from 8:30am – 10:00am
Join Master Birder and Wildlife Volunteer Zelia Lebeau for a family bird walk.  This morning stroll is perfect for beginning birders of any age.

Trail Hikes
WHEN: Saturdays and Sundays at 1:00 pm
A CNC docent guides you on a journey through the CNC trails using biofacts and activities to spark your “natural” curiosity.

Feeding Time
WHEN: Tuesdays and Saturdays at 4:00pm
Join a naturalist for an in-depth look at one of our resident animals as our Wildlife Department feeds them!

Night Hike
WHEN: Saturday September 3rd from 8:00pm – 10:00pm
Ages 5 – adult, $10 General Public/ $7 CNC Members
Join a naturalist on an outdoor journey to see what happens as the sun goes down and the night comes to life!  Hike through the wetlands or woods, visit with a nocturnal animal up close and enjoy a campfire complete with marshmallow roasting.

Family Canoe Day
WHEN: Sunday September 5th from 10:00am – 11:30am
Ages 5 – adult. $15 General Public/$10 CNC Members (price is per person; book a third seat in a canoe and get half off.) Join us to discover the basics of canoeing including boat basics and paddling techniques.  Spend some time on one of CNC’s ponds to practice your newly-acquired skills.

Animal Encounter
WHEN: Sundays at 4:00 PM
Learn about the native wildlife living at CNC through a 30-minute live animal presentation with one of our naturalists or docents.

Bio-Buggies
WHEN: Monday September 5th and Wednesday September 21st from 1:30pm – 3:00pm
Come explore the Insect and/or Bird Bio-Buggies! Discover the fascinating world of insects and birds with hand-on experiments and tools. Ages 4 -12.

Story Time by the River
WHEN: First Wednesday of the month
Join volunteers for a fun story time at CNC. Using books, puppets, and other props, they tell stories all about nature. Ages 3 – 5.

All About Nature Social Club Field Trip – Apple Picking!
WHEN: Saturday September 10th from 8:30 AM – 1:00 PM

Nature Merit Badge
WHEN: Saturday September 10th from 10:00am – 3:00pm
Cost: $20 per scout*,  Scouts will discover food webs, various vertebrates and learn how and why plants and animals are important to each other. Spend time outside identifying a variety of Georgia plants and animals and make a plaster animal track to take home! Pre-registration Required.  *sponsored by the Will Alexander Memorial Scholarship.

Grandparents’ Ice Cream Social
WHEN: Sunday September 11th from 1:00pm – 3:00pm
Help us honor our grandparents on Grandparents’ Day as we enjoy a good ol’ fashioned ice cream social.  Grandparent’s eat ice cream for free – just $3 for everyone else!

Canoe Rentals
WHEN: Sunday September 11th from 12:30 PM – 4:30 PM
Ages 5 – Adult, $10 General Public/$5 CNC Members (price per boat for 30-minutes)
Try out canoeing on the pond!  CNC will have a canoe guide to assist you as you explore the wildlife that inhabits one of CNC’s three ponds!

Pee-Wee Naturalist Fall Series – Ages 3 & 4
WHEN: Tuesdays: September 13, October 11, and November 8, 9:45 – 11:00am
$50 Non-Members/$40 Members, Pre-Registration Required. Fall is one of our four favorite seasons at CNC!  Head out with your little one as we play games, visit with animals and explore the outdoors as we discover all about Nutty Nature, Spooky or Spectacular Nature, and A TrailTale!  This is the perfect adventure to play in the outdoors, learn about nature and make new friends!

Canoe Merit Badge
WHEN: Saturday September 17th from 10:00 AM – 2:30 PM
$30 per scout. Discover all about canoes, the safety involved, different paddling strokes and more!  Learn how to canoe and practice your new skills while paddling on one of CNC’s ponds!

Scout Open House
WHEN: Saturday September 17th from 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM
Not sure what scouts can do at CNC?  Scout Open House gives you the opportunity to explore and find out!  Scout leaders wearing their uniform get in free and scouts in uniform get $2 off admission.

Scout Campout
WHEN: From Saturday September 17th 5:30 PM to Sunday September 18th 10:00 AM
$40 per tent, Pre-registration required. Ever wonder what it’s like at CNC after the sun goes down?  Join us after Scout Open House as we enjoy a night of star-gazing, listening for nocturnal wildlife, campfire songs and sleeping outside at the Chattahoochee Nature Center!  We provide space, water, bathrooms, campfire and a night of fun; you bring the rest!  We camp out RAIN OR SHINE.

Canoe Rescue Skills Class
WHEN: Sunday September 18th from 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM
Ages 14 – adult (participants under the age of 18 must have an adult accompanying them),
$20 General Public, $15 CNC Members, Pre-Registration Required. Join CNC Canoe Guides and American Canoe Association Certified instructors Beckie Hawkins and Debby Head to learn various skills to aid in rescuing a canoe and keeping all paddlers safe. Program will include flipping boats,so expect to get wet.  Physical activity will include activities such as lifting yourself into a boat and helping to lift others.

Home School Lunch & Learn and Science Monday
WHEN: Monday September 19th 12:30 PM – 3:00 PM
All Ages. Learn over lunch about extreme plants and bizarre animals from 12:30 – 1:00. Afterwards, head to the Nature Exchange and solve the science experiment of the month!

All About Nature Social Club – Fungi of Georgia
WHEN: Thursday September 22nd from 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM
Ages 16 – adult. $10 General Public/$5 CNC Members. Join our monthly Dine and Discover potluck.  Spend your evening socializing with like-minded folks and learning from an expert in the field.  Bring a dish to share.

Rivers Alive!
WHEN: Saturday September 24th from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Ages 8 – adult. No Pre-Registration Required. Help clean up the Chattahoochee River during this annual event.  Head down to Riverside Park and join in with the clean-up.

Live in the Ben Brady Pavilion – Sara Hickman
WHEN: Saturday September 24th at 1:00pm
All Ages. Sara Hickman, the Official Musician of Texas, brings her amazing voice to the Chattahoochee Nature Center and shares some of her favorite family folk music!  Bring your blanket and get here early for this once-in-a-lifetimemusical performance.

Crafty Carnivorous Plants
WHEN: Sunday September 25th from 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM
All Ages. From 1 – 2pm, join a Naturalist to explore the fascinating world of carnivorous plants!  Tour our Pitcher Plant Garden to discover why these plants eat insects, how they attract them and get a peek inside the plant to seewhat happens next.  Then complete your Carnivorous Plant Hike by creating a kooky carnivorous plant craft to take home.

Fall Native Plant Sale at the CNC Greenhouse
WHEN: Friday, September 30 10am-5pm and Saturday, October 1, 10am-5pm
There are many native plants suited to different garden situations, from full sun to full shade, and a wide variety will be available at this semi-annual sale of specialty plants.  This year we will also be sellingnutritious veggies for the winter vegetable garden in conjunction with our Unity Garden.  Horticulturalists and Master Gardeners will be on-site to assist you in picking the perfect plants for your yard and to answer all of your plant questions, making thisan educational visit as well!  Stop by and see what unique native plants we have in stock to beautify your gardens and attract native wildlife to your yard!
