Powerful Plants – Guest Post from Chattahoochee Nature Center

Chattahoochee Nature CenterWhat classifies a plant as being “powerful”?

Is it their stature and size? Their colors and smells? Their remedies and abilities? Or perhaps, could it be all of the above? Plants ARE powerful, and we have a great love and respect for them. ALL of them. Big, small, smelly, green, yellow, brown… You name it, we’ll love it.

The Nature Exchange at the Chattahoochee Nature Center acts as a special kind of swap shop. Visitors can bring in natural things (like powerful plants) they find outside their homes or while exploring, earn points, and trade for other cool things that we have here. Points are awarded by the naturalist based upon a series of criteria (all of which can be found on our website, listed below).

When a child brings an item to trade, the naturalist on duty will always take the time to discuss that item with the child. Whether it is a pine cone or rare petrified wood, each item is important for the natural world and therefore an important item for trade. Through the years, we have seen numerous kids in and out of the Nature Exchange, and in a changing world, one thing always remains constant – Kids love to explore! And they love to share what they’ve discovered.

And through it all, plants remain a powerful part of our trading system. Every day, we witness the potent way in which they are able to ignite excitement and interest for kids in the natural world.

Plants have the power to move us,
to inspire us,
to educate us,
and to give us life.

Powerful plants, indeed!

We welcome you to come visit us at the trading desk of the Nature Exchange and witness this powerful phenomenon for yourselves.
