Zip Lining & Other Fun Challenges Await at Callaway Gardens TreeTop Adventure – @CallawayGardens

Do your kids need one more adventure before school starts?  Of course they do!  Even if school starts August 1st, you can still take them to enjoy TreeTop Adventure on a weekend.  Being in Atlanta, we are lucky to live so close to one of Georgia’s finest zip-lines.

My twelve-year-old son was thrilled to be on adventure-overload yesterday at TreeTop Adventure at Callaway Gardens.  He zip lined 30 feet above the forest floor and went across 19 sections made up of ladders, wires, logs, discs, netting and other suspended surfaces.

Callaway Gardens TreeTop Adventure is suitable for adventurers of all ages.  I saw grandparents enjoying the course with their grandchildren who were building great memories I’m sure.  Kids were laughing at and cheering each other on as they and their friends accomplished each section.  I witnessed two children being brought down to calmer ground via repelling ropes because they got a little scared.  Both kids were just tall enough to go on the course and were with their grandparents.  As long as TreeTop Adventure is open, there is a guide that will help a child (or adult) to calmer ground if needed.

The only requirement is that you have to be 54 inches tall in order to enjoy TreeTop Adventure. I confirmed that if you have a child who is 54 inches tall, you (the parent or other adult) do not have to go up with them.  Parents and other on-lookers are able to watch participants as they go across the course each section, from directly below.  If you don’t want to or are not able to go up, you can walk under your child (54 inches or taller) while he/she is going across the entire course.  We had younger children with us who were not tall enough to enjoy the adventure so we brought drinks and snacks, a large towel to sit on, and watched my son as he zipped, walked, and ran across the entire course, up to 30 feet above us.  The younger kids had a blast watching him and cheering him on while my son liked knowing that we were below him the entire time.

When I asked my son what his favorite part of TreeTop Adventure is, he replied:

“the zip lining, because it’s just so freaking fast!”

My son, twelve years old, zipped across the lines with ease and walked across the challenging suspended surfaces without looking nervous or scared.  He has been on TreeTop Adventure before but still I assumed that he would be a little nervous with being up about 30 feet and trying to secure his footing on swinging logs and such.  He did great!

When he finished the course, he asked if there is a season pass for TreeTop Adventure.   I told him I’ll have to look into that.

It’s best to reserve a time to go to TreeTop Adventure online, a day or so before your visit.  Slots are sold on an hourly basis.  We reserved a 10am slot which worked out perfectly as it wasn’t too hot and there weren’t a lot of people on the course before him, which might have slowed him down.  You’d think he was training for the Army as fast as he was running through the course.  He would have done it again a few times if he could I’m sure.

When you arrive at TreeTop Adventure, behind the Virginia Hand Callaway Discovery Center at Callaway Gardens, a guide will secure you in a harness, lead you through a brief hands-on instruction session, then send you up on an adrenaline-charged adventure with a fabulous view of the forest and lake.  You can stick with a group if you’d like.  I saw families of four and more enjoying TreeTop Adventure.
