Create a 2015 Atlanta Science Festival Official T-Shirt: Call for Entries Open for Student Design Contest!

Atlanta Science Festival T-Shirt Design ContestGeorgia Students Encouraged to Illustrate their Meaning of Science

The Atlanta Science Festival wants to encourage young, Georgia artists to get involved with the weeklong science and technology event by entering its student T-shirt design contest.

The Atlanta Science Festival is inviting Georgia students (grades 6-12) to submit a T- shirt design that depicts what science means to them and how science might change their worlds. “World” could literally be interpreted to mean the planet. Or maybe it’s the role science might play in their personal worlds, whether they revolve around sports, school, family or socializing with friends, for example.

Designs must be submitted in digital format only and emailed to:
tshirt@atlantasciencefestival.org. Entries must be received no later than 11 p.m. EST, on Feb. 9, 2015.

The winner will receive two tickets to the event, An Evening with Neil deGrasse Tyson, at the Fox Theatre on Mar. 24, 2015; an on-stage award presentation during the Festival‘s Exploration Expo on Mar. 28, 2015; and 10 T-shirts for family or friends.

The design will be judged by a panel of Atlanta Science Festival staff, board members, sponsors and partners on artistry, creativity, originality and the ability to communicate a clear and positive message.

“This interactive event highlights our commitment to arts education and innovation as part of this year’s Festival,” said Meisa Salaita, Ph.D., Festival executive co-director.

“Science is such a powerful, thought-provoking thing. We wanted to give students another avenue to embrace it, use their imaginations and make it their own.”

About the Atlanta Science Festival

The second annual Atlanta Science Festival is a weeklong celebration of local science and technology that culminates with an all-day interactive Exploration Expo at Centennial Olympic Park. Scientists, experts and educators from local schools, colleges, universities, museums and corporations will uncover mysteries and explain discoveries in hands-on activities, facility tours, stimulating presentations, and riveting performances at venues across the city. Our mission is to celebrate the inherent integration of STEM/STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) in our lives today, to share the impact that STEM/STEAM have on our community, and to inspire us all to wonder about our future. The Festival, which will be held March 21- 28, is produced by a collaboration of science, cultural, and educational institutions, led by Emory University, Georgia Institute of Technology and the Metro Atlanta Chamber.
