I had an amazing time at Cavalia Saturday and highly recommend that you go to Cavailia before the show ends January 3rd, 2010. An acrobatic and equestrian fairy tale enjoyable for all ages. A combination of talented acrobats, well-trained, happy horses, and musicians make Cavalia a one of a kind show that left me in awe and with a higher appreciate for both horses and acrobats alike.

Cavalia opening

Cavalia is an exquisite, multimedia extravaganza, showcasing the harmony between man and horse in a fast-paced 120-minute performance. Set under the White Big Top at Atlantic Station in the heart of Midtown Atlanta, Cavalia features more than 100 two- and four-legged artists, including beautiful horses of 12 breeds, riders, acrobats, aerialists, dancers and live musicians.  This spectacular production was created by Cirque du Soleil co-founder, Normand Latourelle, and is often compared to Cirque for the way it revolutionizes equestrian and performing arts, much like Cirque revolutionized the circus.

The vocals of Anne Sophie Hoffmann captivate the audience throughout the show while riders, dancers, and acrobats perform acts with grace and sometimes humor that kept the audience clapping and sometimes even laughing.

Elements including water, fire, ‘snow’, leaves, and sand are used during the show which made me feel all the more ‘in the moment’ as if I was in the wild with these beautiful horses.

The magnificent, acrobatic, and ethereal Cavalia is in its sixth year of touring, and has been regularly playing to sold-out crowds and receiving rave reviews in Atlanta. The city’s response to Cavalia brought the show to extend its run to November 22 last week, but sold- out performances have indicated that Atlanta needs one more week with the show WXIA NBC calls ‘‘A must see.’’

It was clear to me that the horses were not under pressure to perform and that the riders love the horses a great deal. The audience could see the love between the riders and the horses. There was a look of peace and happiness in the eyes of each as they rode, played, and roamed the stage as if they were in the wild.

Cavalia is a show the equestrian master as well as an 8 year old child will enjoy. My 10 year old son watched the Cavalia DVD and was smiling from ear to ear during the ‘trick riding’ act. You’ll have to get the DVD or go to the show to see what I’m talking about. It’s impossible to explain and for you to appreciate it as much as I want you to!

One more personal note.. I think parents and kids will appreciate the short presentations and lack of serious story line. The 10-15 minute long ‘acts’ make the show easy for children to enjoy while adults take pleasure in the short acts from an enteraintment standpoint knowing they will get to see many different types of acts in one show.

If just sitting in the stands is not enough for you, the show can be customized for the complete VIP experience from $99 to $199, including a Horse Lovers Package that lets patrons tour Cavalia’s stables, and the Rendez-Vous Package that includes a tour of the stables, a cocktail/dinner reception and much more. Special pricing available for children, students, and seniors.
