Youth Orchestra Music Director Jere Flint To Lead Youth Orchestra In Works By Bloch Grofé, Pasculli, and Wagner

ATLANTA SYMPHONY YOUTH ORCHESTRA TO PERFORM FINAL CONCERT OF 2012-13 SEASON SUNDAY, MAY 12, 2013The Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra (ASYO), led by Staff Conductor and Youth Orchestra Music Director Jere Flint, will perform its Finale Concert on Sunday, May 12, 2013, at 3:00 p.m in Atlanta Symphony Hall at the Woodruff Arts Center.

This concert, which is the final performance in the Youth Orchestra’s 2012-13 season, will feature two student musicians: oboist Cassie Pilgrim performing Pasculli’s oboe concerto La Favorita and cellist Myrtil Mitanga performing Bloch’s Hebrew Rhapsody for Cello and Orchestra, Schelomo. Also on the program is the Introduction to Act III of Wagner’s Lohengrin and Grofé’s Grand Canyon Suite.

Ms. Pilgrim has been the principal oboist of the ASYO for the past two years and is a sophomore at Wesleyan School in Peachtree Corners. Ms. Mitanga is currently a cellist in the ASYO and is a senior at the Atlanta International School. She has been a member of the Orchestra’s Talent Development Program since 2004. Both performers are winners of the Youth Orchestra’s annual Concerto Competition.

Established in 1974, the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra provides Atlanta’s most talented and dedicated students an outlet to perform masterworks. Each year, more than 300 instrumentalists ages 13-18 audition for one of 120 seats in the orchestra. The Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra presents three concerts each year, in addition to the Atlanta Symphony Kid’s Christmas concerts, and members have exclusive invitations to participate in readings and master classes with the top artists in the instrumental music industry.
