Atlanta Jewish Music Festival is a multi-day celebration of Fresh Jewish Music created to provide opportunities for musicians and audiences to deepen their connection to Jewish music, culture and each other. The three-day festival was wrapped up with performances by Jewish musicians and bands; Saul Kaye, Electra, and Lisa Loeb and Nine Stories, at Variety Playhouse.
You remember Lisa Loeb right? If you are in my age range (over 35), you surely remember the film Reality Bites, which featured Lisa’s first #1 hit song, Stay.
Lisa Loeb & Nine Stories’ performance/concert is part of a tour supporting their new album “No Fairy Tale”, which is getting rave reviews, and the Atlanta Jewish Music Festival. Their set list included a few of Lisa Loeb’s “oldies but goodies” like Stay, No Fairy Tale, Hurricane, and the audience requested songs Sandalwood and The 90’s.
Opening for Loeb was a bluesy-fold artist Saul Kaye and Israeli band Electra. Both were a lot of fun and got the audience ready for Lisa Loeb & Nine Stories. With theatre style seating as well as tables and chairs to the right and left of the theatre seating, there wasn’t a bad seat in the house. I look forward to going to another concert at Variety Playhouse soon.
The energy at Variety Playhouse last night was all over the spectrum including super energetic to mellow and nostalgic at times. The first thing that I noticed when Lisa, a Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter, came on stage is that she still has her angelic and genuine presence even after over 20 years of performing. The audience loved Lisa’s between-song stage chatter such as when she explained what her children’s song The Disappointed Pancake is about.

Lisa Loeb’s Children’s Music
Lisa Loeb released her first children’s songbook “Lisa Loeb’s Silly Sing-Along: The Disappointing Pancake and Other Zany Songs” in October 2011. Known for her wit, wacky humor and creativity, the children’s songbook that featured a CD included four original silly songs plus six all-time kids’ favorites.
